TLR SESSION № 008

That "wait, what IS this?" feeling. Phone out, Shazam open, praying it catches it in time. These are my 5-second moments.

Ever heard a song out in public and thought, "Damn, I need that"?

That's what this week is all about.

You know the moment.

You're scrambling for your phone, praying Shazam catches it before the song ends. I call that a 5-Second Moment (5SM).

It's the drop. The lyric that hits. That one instrument. Anything that scratches your brain.

But really, it's about noticing something shift inside you.

And it's almost never a big moment. It's ordinary. You're watching TV, driving, sitting at dinner. Just existing.

Then boom.

It catches you.

Now, I've got a ton of house, bass, and techno that's stopped me in my tracks. But this week I want to show you a different side of what catches my ear.

So here are some songs that are my 5SMs, plus an album that'll teach you a thing or two about love.

Play it in order. I made it that way :)

Victoria Monét is one of my all-time fave R&B/soul singers, and it's no surprise she's one of the most in-demand writers out there. Watching her go from writing with Ariana Grande to stepping into her own spotlight?

That's growth y'all.

I've been a fan since Jaguar and Jaguar II. (Incredible albums btw)

And I think she is so knowledgeable and executes her artistic vision with a precision that is obvious upon listening. And in this album, you know she was cooking up something special, expansive, exploratory, and you can hear the styles move as this album progresses.

It's nasty, sensual, sexual, emotional, and covers all the bases of what the love frequency is and can be.

Many of these songs you're going to want to have in your collection and playlists.

The penmanship and wordplay are a delight. At this point, I've listened to this album like 5 times, and I've discovered something new with every listen.

The collabs are insane with the likes of Bruno Mars, Lucky Daye, Leon Thomas, Chloe, and SZA.

At this point in my life, I'm chronically single so my yearning game is STRONG

Some of my standouts are:

"Juicy" is the perfect song on fantasizing about the moment your lips meet and the tension in between.

“Maybe” ft Lucky Daye. This is such a great duet. And I think my fave on the album. It's exploring the choice to commit. I love her perspective of being like hurry up boy and apply the pressure and then Lucky's verse delivers. 10/10.

"That's Why I Love You" ft. Bruno Mars. This is the love I be dreaming of. Their voices pair so well together. Victoria and Bruno are a match made in heaven. I easily added this to my dream wedding playlist.

When I heard “Reach Out” I immediately heard Kaytranada's fingerprint in this production and you know God is real when these two continue to release music together. BANGER.

You can feel every emotion in this album and I wouldn't be surprised if this body of work wins a few grammy's.

Let miss Monét teach you the frequencies of love.
